Collective Printed Zines
Showcase of street photography from the Netherlands in collective printed zines.
In collaboration with a group of local photographers we make a printed zine from a specific location.
Doing this as a collective you can reach a wider audience to showcase your work then doing it alone.
But also it gets more feasible to get something out in print without investing a lot of time and costs.
And ofcourse you get extra exposure through our channels.
It started all with State of Amsterdam. But to make this also possible for other places, we came up with a State of ... to make this possible everywhere in The Netherlands.
How does State of ... work?
The magazine is curated, printed in limited editions and all participating photographers are contributing voluntarily and unpaid.
Each edition of the State has a maximum of 6 different photographers. The choice of photographers is made by invitation only.
You are completely free to submit whatever you want about the specific location (as long as it is street/documentary photography related).
Most people send between 8 and 15 photos from which we then select 4 or 6 for the zine.
Of course you retain full and exclusive rights to your own photos.
Your photographs will only be placed in zines for which you have given permission.
Copyright and all other rights of each photo featured belongs to the photographer.
Copyright and all other rights of each photo featured belongs to the photographer.
What are the costs?
Printing and promotion is expensive, but together we can make it affordable and feasible.
To cover the costs of printing and promotion, we will divide the costs among the participating photographers.
To give you an indication - for example:
4 photographers with 6 photos each
28-page A5 zine
Edition of 40
Costs approximately €160
This means €40 per photographer
And each photographer receives 10 copies.
If you want more than 10 copies, it will cost approximately €4.00 per zine extra.
And if you are not interested in a print version and only like to participate that is possible too.
What is 31Photographers role?
This is a non-commercial initiative offering a showcase for street photography in printed zines.
We collect all the supplied photos, create the layout of the zine and make sure everything is setup correctly regarding ink coverage, margins and color profiles. Then after approval of all photographers we discuss this with the printer, make the payment and get it actually printed.
Once we have received the zines from the printer, they can be picked up or sent.
We can also sell extra zines here at 31Photographers.com. But that is only for promotion and distribution of your work. To be honest there is no margin to really earn anything, we have more work to arrange it. It is really more about getting your work distributed.
But we are happy to support it in any other way.
Another option is just to show a digital version (PDF or screenshots) and refer people to the photographer's websites.
